The new insert molding technology has considerable application potential for textile-reinforced TPU film, for example in A, B and C posts. The use of aliphatic, lightfast Desmopan® enables the surface of the component to be lightly colored.

Following several successful applications in Europe, polyurethane ties have now been premiered in Germany. In the Leverkusen CHEMPARK, a turnout system was installed that should improve the railroad links between the production site and the German Railways network. The 74-meter-long component was produced by voestal-pine BWG GmbH & Co. KG at its Butzbach plant. The supplier of the 136 ties is SEKISUI CHEMICAL, while the polyurethane system based on long-fiber reinforced Baydur® 60 integral skin foam comes from Sumika Bayer Urethane Co., Ltd., the Japanese polyurethane systems house in Bayer MaterialScience's global BaySystems® network.

Railway ties made from polyurethane are noted among other things for the far greater durability of the ties and the correspondingly lower lifecycle costs. Moreover, indi-vidual ties can be replaced quickly and accurately, helping to lower construction costs even further. Compared with concrete, the polyurethane material weighs much less. The ties can be manufactured in virtually any desired length and cross-section.

As part of a renovation project the tracks on the Zollamt bridge in Vienna have been laid on sleepers made of a Baydur® 60 gra-de reinforced with long glass fibers produced by Sumika Bayer Urethane Co. Ltd., the Japanese polyurethane systems house in Bayer MaterialScience's global BaySystems® network. It was the debut of this application in Europe.

Unique features of the deflector include a section, angled along a curve, that transitions up to the actual wind deflector, and a top edge that is rounded for safety and other reasons. It would have taken a great deal of time and money to achieve these features in glass.

Makrofol® Softtouch and Bayfol® Softtouch make possible soft surfaces that feel warm to the touch. The new precoated films are used in the FIM process to produce decorated three-dimensional parts.

Bodywork parts are increasingly being manufactured with plastic. The new Multitec® Short Fiber Spraying polyurethane system from Bayer MaterialScience offers clear economic benefits over conventional production methods thanks to the low number of operations and short cycle times involved.
